چکیده

Introduction: In scapula, the acromion process projects forwards almost at right angles from the lateral end of the spine. The coracoacromian ligament spans between tip of acromian and coracoid process thus it forms coraco-acromial arch. The space below the arch gives passage to the tendons of muscles forming musculorotator cuff. As morphometry of the acromion process of the scapula is an important factor implicated in impingement syndrome of the shoulder joint. Methodology: Present study carried out on the 129 dry scapulas of unknown age and sex, 67 were from the right side, and 62 were from the left. Measurements were taken using a sliding vernier calliper and recorded in millimeters Result: The mean values of scapular height and width were observed 145.1 mm and 105.5 mm in total number of scapulae respectively. The mean values of acromian length, acromian width and thickness were observed as 46.1 mm, 23.2 mm and 6.60 mm respectively. The distance taken from the Tip of Acromian process to the Tip of coracoid process was found 37.5 mm in total sample. The three types of acromion were observed as type-I flat was seen in 22.5%, type II curved in 38.8% and type III hooked in 38.8% respectively. Conclusion: Knowledge of the morphometeric values of scapula and acromian process is important for clinicians in understanding and curing shoulder joint aliments.

Morphometry of acromion process of human scapulae and its clinical importance amongst Nepalese population.

BACKGROUND Morphometry of the acromion process of the scapula is an important factor implicated in impingement syndrome of the shoulder joint. Authors who have studied this process have tried to classify it according to the standard Bigliani classification viz., type 1, 2 and 3. OBJECTIVES To analyze and classify the acromion process of human scapulae. METHODS The present study was observat...

Correlation between morphometry of the suprascapular notch and anthropometric measurements of the scapula.

The concept of the study was to find the correlation between the morphometry of the suprascapular notch and basic anthropometric measurements of the human scapula. The measurements of the human scapulae included: morphological length and width, maximal width and length projection of scapular spine, length of acromion, and maximal length of the coracoid process. The glenoid cavity was measured i...

Morphological parameters of the acromion.

The purpose of this study was to record the basic morphometric values of the acromion. Forty-four pairs of dried scapulas were reviewed. Acromial shape was evaluated in relation to sex, symmetry and presence of subacromial enthesophytes and classified according to Bigliani with the following results: type I (flat): 26.1%, type II (curved): 55.6% and type III (hooked): 18.1%. There was a greater...

Geometric Morphometrics of Gorilla and Pan Scapulae

Understanding the morphology of the scapula of Gorilla and Pan is crucial to scientists who find fossil ape scapulae and need to assign them to taxa and interpret the functional significance of their morphology. While differences between the shapes of Gorilla and Pan scapulae are known, a morphological link between locomotor patterns and scapular shape has yet to be determined. Using geometric ...

The human acromion viewed from an evolutionary perspective.

The high prevalence of rotator cuff tendinopathy in modern humans may be partly related to the shape acquired by the scapula as species changed throughout evolution. Here, we compared the anatomic features of the scapula across members of the Hominoid group. The results support the hypothesis that the scapula of Homo sapiens sapiens exhibits distinctive anatomic characteristics compared to that...
